Decramastic Tile to Colorbond Roof Replacement in Croydon Park

Decramastic tiles are one of the rarest roof types we come across — lightweight aluminium tiles from the mid-20th century that are barely seen today. Because they were commonly used to cover asbestos cement roofs, testing is mandatory before any work begins.

Here's the interesting part: the tiles themselves weren't concealing an asbestos sheet underneath. The tiles were clear — but the coating on the tiles tested positive. NATA-accredited testing by Sydney Laboratory Services confirmed asbestos in the surface coating.

We brought in a licensed specialist contractor to safely remove and vacuum every tile under controlled conditions before our crew set foot on the roof.

Once cleared, the second problem became clear: every timber batten on the house was deeply rotten and needed full replacement. New metal top hat battens were installed throughout, followed by new Colorbond sheeting — the result is a completely fresh, watertight roof built to last another 50 years.
